The fastest and easiest way to keep a location from appearing in status updates or chats is to go into your phone's privacy settings and turn off the location services.
The location services use GPS and crowd-sourced Wi-Fi to triangulate your approximate location.
However, Whats App is keen to reiterate that users' encrypted messages will remain private and the California-based firm won’t post, sell, share, or give your phone number to advertisers."By coordinating more with Facebook, we'll be able to do things like track basic metrics about how often people use our services and better fight spam on Whats App," the company explained on its blog.
